The sE Electronics X1 S is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone designed for versatile, full-range vocal and instrument recording in commercial facilities, project studios, home setups, and mobile rigs. The handcrafted gold-sputtered capsule features a pressure-gradient design for directional focus and rejection of off-axis sounds. It utilizes a gold-plated XLR 3-pin jack and requires 48V phantom power.

The metal-bodied X1 S delivers a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and a selectable low-cut filter at 80 or 160 Hz to reduce rumble and low-frequency buildup. A switchable -10 or -20 dB pad minimizes distortion when miking loud sources such as drums and amplified guitars. Even without a pad, the X1 S can handle a maximum SPL of 140 dB. It ships with a mic clip for easy mounting on a mic stand.

The X1 S is a refined version of sE's best-selling X1, tuned for advanced performance in every way. When sE introduced the X1 in 2010, it redefined the potential of an affordable handcrafted condenser microphone. With extremely high dynamic range and SPL handling capabilities, along with expanded features that dramatically increase its flexibility, the X1 S has been improved in every way, yet is even more affordable than the original.

Just like its predecessor, the X1 S utilizes a handmade condenser capsule, meticulously constructed and tuned in sE's capsule room by technicians with decades of experience. This results in a capsule built like the world's finest musical instruments, and a capsule truly up to the challenge of recording them.

High-Performance Electronics

Where the original X1 was powerful, the redesigned electronics of the X1 S take its performance to a whole new level, giving it immense dynamic range, improved sensitivity, dramatically increased SPL handling (up to 160 dB), and a huge reduction in self-noise (down to 9 dBA).

Two-Position Pad

The -10 and -20 dB switchable attenuation pad prevents overloading your preamp or mixer and provides extended dynamic range without compromises. Two switchable levels enable close-mic techniques for even the loudest sources like brass instruments, timpani, and drums.

Low-Cut Filters

Selectable at either 80 or 160 Hz, these two filters help eliminate low-frequency rumble or footfall noise as well as help compensate for excessive bass (proximity effect) with close-mic techniques.

Quality Construction

Unlike the cheaply constructed bodies of many entry-level microphones, the all-metal chassis of the X1 S provides efficient rejection of any electrical interference and noise. The high-quality finish and gold-plated XLR connector ensures a great look and a loss-free, reliable signal connection for years to come.
